Areas of Learning

‘Achieve, Dream, Believe’

At Ysgol Greenhill our aim is to create a curriculum that has kindness and respect at its core and embodies equity for all our learners. We want learning experiences in our classrooms that offer and embrace a wider view of the world and its diversity.

We seek to create a strong, empathetic understanding within our learners of their own identity and of our local community, whilst also developing our learners understanding of other people and their communities. We believe learning should develop our learner’s independence, resourcefulness and resilience. Giving our learners the skills and knowledge needed to manage and succeed in life. Our aim is to create an aspirational learning community, inspiring learners who are motivated to achieve and are proud to be an important part of the Ysgol Greenhill Community.

The four purposes are the driver for change at all levels at Ysgol Greenhill, providing the integral vision for our curriculum design and development. We believe all members of the school community should have a shared understanding of why and how the four purposes underpin all learning activities within our school.

Our vision for the Curriculum is:
  • A curriculum that has kindness and respect at its core and embodies equity for all learners.
  • Learning experiences that embrace a wider view of the world and its diversity.
  • A strong, empathetic understanding of our own identity and local community also that of other people and their communities.
  • Learning that develops independence, resourcefulness, resilience and the skills and knowledge learners need to manage and succeed in life.
  • To create an aspirational community of lifelong learners who are motivated to achieve.

At Ysgol Greenhill we aim to provide a carefully planned and structured curriculum that not only develops the understanding, skills and attitudes of every pupil in order to achieve their full potential, but one that also provides experiences that are challenging and exciting so that our students develop a love of learning.  All pupils at Ysgol Greenhill have access to a broad, balanced and relevant range of subjects at Key Stage 3 to enable them to make informed choices as they begin Key Stage 4.

Our timetable operates over a two week cycle with daily tutor time and five one hour lessons per day.  Classes are largely mixed ability, with setting in some core subjects to ensure that pupils are supported appropriately.
