Education for Everyone

Addysg i Bawb

Our Additional Learning Needs (ALN) team supports pupils by equipping them with the tools and skills they need to achieve their full potential.

Ysgol Greenhill is an inclusive environment where we support pupils to grow and thrive into successful young adults. Our ALN team works closely with pupils that have specific learning needs, and with staff, in order to develop effective strategies to support the learning needs of all pupils.

Interventions - Literacy, Numeracy, social communication (TAMARR7 and TAMARR+) and Learning Coaches

Literacy and Numeracy

Within the ALN department we have Literacy and Numeracy support. The intervention programmes help to develop and improve these areas so pupils can utilise their skills within their mainstream lessons. Pupils are identified via screening results and referrals from their class teachers.

TAMARR7

This provision provides an enhanced transition for pupils in year 7.

Predominantly following nurture principles - the aim of the provision is to support pupils in areas ranging from self-esteem, emotional understanding, communication, social interaction and behaviour management.

We offer a check in facility every morning where pupils are met with a positive, warm and welcoming environment to start their school day.

TAMARR7 pupils will access timetabled interventions during their school week as well as having access to the TAMARR7 room every break and lunch time.

With the help of our staff, pupils will develop their own learning plans and identify strategies to use within the classroom.

Pupils are encouraged to set their own targets in order to take responsibility for their own progress.

This wrap around support ensures that pupils get a tailored intervention in areas of need specific to them.

TAMARR +

This provision follows the ELSA programme of support. ELSAs (Emotional Literacy Support Assistant) are specially trained by education psychologists to support the emotional development of children and young people in school. ELSA’s have regular professional supervision from educational psychologists to help them in their work.

Pupils at all stages of their schooling can be referred by Pastoral and ALN staff for concerns such as emotional awareness, self-esteem, anger management, social and friendship skills, loss, bereavement and family break ups.

Pupils are seen weekly, for approximately an 8-week period for hour-long sessions, where they are encouraged to find their own solutions and express their own voice.

Where further support is needed, the sessions are extended accordingly and referred to external agencies if required.

In addition to our ELSA provision, we also offer pupils bespoke packages of support working in small groups focusing on areas of need.

TAMARR+ offers a check-in facility as well as the opportunity to drop in at break and lunchtimes for further support throughout the day.

All TAMARR pupils have the opportunity to participate in activities that promote social interaction, teamwork, communication and resilience.

We aim to develop our pupils’ skills to build tolerance, manage emotions and achieve resilience and respect, and at all times, we strive to build positive relationships in a supportive and welcoming environment.

Learning Coaches

Learning Coach is a KS 4 and 5 provision, which pupils are referred to by Heads of House or the ALNCo.  Students can access the Learning Coach provision for two reasons:

Firstly, students attend to improve their academic grades in a targeted subject/subjects. This is done through aiding students with time management and revision skills, reinforcing the work done in lessons, and helping them with catching up with work from missed lessons. Students are timetabled for weekly slots, encouraged to identify areas where they need extra support, and set their own targets. This is a limited time intervention, and students will stop accessing the provision once their targets have been reached.

Students who require additional emotional support to aid with raising their attendance in school and lessons can also access the Learning Coach provision as a Safe Space to work, or to seek help when they are struggling. We offer a range of Emotional First Aid, Mindfulness techniques, and a quiet space for self-regulation for moments of emotional crisis. Students work with the Learning Coach to discover various methods to help manage their Mental Health, and to improve their self-confidence and resilience. The Learning Coaches will also work with these students to help them catch up with missed work.

A check in provision is available at both break and lunch time for the students who access the Learning Coach provision for emotional support. This gives the students a quiet, safe space to self-regulate or seek further support throughout the day.
