Course Title:                         Mathematics

Final Qualification:             GCE

Outcome Range:                A – E

Summary of Assessments:

  • Year 1: AS Qualification
    • Unit 1 – Pure Mathematics: Written Exam 2 hours 30 minutes
      • 5% of AS Qualification / 25% of Overall Qualification
    • Unit 2 – Applied Mathematics: Written Exam 1 hour 45 minutes
      • 5% of AS Qualification / 15% of Overall Qualification
    • Year 2: A2 (Full) Qualification
      • Unit 3 – Pure Mathematics: Written Exam 2 hours 30 minutes
        • 35% of Overall Qualification
      • Unit 4 – Applied Mathematics: Written Exam 1 hour 45 minutes
        • 25% of Overall Qualification

Summary of Content:

Pure: Proof, Algebra & Functions, Coordinate geometry, Sequences and series, The Binomial Theorem, Trigonometry, Exponentials and Logarithms, Differentiation, Integration, Vectors & Numerical Methods.

Applied: Statistical Sampling, Data interpretation, Probability, Statistical Distributions, Hypothesis Testing, Kinematics, Forces & Newtons Law and Moments.

Essential Equipment:

A calculator is required for all assessments and must include the following features;

  • an iterative function
  • the ability to compute summary statistics and access probabilities from standard statistical distributions.
