Studying English unlocks the door to success across the whole curriculum, helping students to gain confidence in their oral and written communication.Β  Teaching in the department provides real rigour and challenge. Through studying English students become familiar with the Literary Heritage which enriches all our lives as well as becoming fluent in the skills of analysis and expression and encouraging creativity. Through studying English Literature students are able to connect with thoughts and ideas from across the centuries.

THE DEPARTMENT

The English department is a lively and active department and has a suite of six dedicated and recently refurbished rooms, with Interactive Whiteboards. We are very well resourced with an excellent stock of books and DVDs and are strongly supported by the school Library.Β  In addition, we have participated in the Shakespeare Schools Festival for many years.Β  We are a core subject at GCSE, with a well-established A level course.
