Introducing Our New Headteacher, Mr. David Haynes

I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself as the Interim Headteacher of Ysgol Greenhill School, and tell you how excited I am to be working alongside you, to ensure our children have the best learning experience and maximise their full potential during the next academic year.

I have spent my entire thirty-year teaching career in Pembrokeshire, having started in Milford Haven School in 1991 before moving on to Fishguard High school in 1997, and then joining the team at St. Davids in January 2011 as a senior leader.  During this period, I gained broad experience, and fulfilled a number of leadership roles which were central to school improvement.  Having been a successful headteacher in Pembrokeshire for nine years, I am passionate about improving the life chances of our young people so that they can play an important role in society, ensuring that Pembrokeshire is a wonderful place to live and work.

I am conscious that the school has faced a great deal of external pressures over the last few years, and I want to reassure you that I will be giving the Ysgol Greenhill School community my full commitment.  I will be visible around  the school every day, and have high expectations of everyone who will play a part in our school improvement journey –  pupils, their parents/carers and staff.  In order to support the learning ethos, I look forward to visiting the children in their classrooms regularly.

I am also very much looking forward to meeting you, as hearing your views is important to me.  I intend to hold regular face-to-face stakeholder events during the year, if Welsh Government operational guidance for schools allows.  This will allow you to hear, and contribute to, our plans.  In the meantime, should you have any views that you wish to share with me, please contact me via email at

This term, we will be returning to normal school hours, with the start of the school day commencing with lesson 1 at 8:40 a.m. promptly, and the school day ending at 3:20 p.m., following lesson 5.  I would also like to remind you that all pupils in years 7 – 11 will be required to remain on the site throughout the day in line with our safeguarding policy. Welsh Government guidance states that pupils will be expected to wear face coverings inside the school building, but not during lessons.

I wish you a very enjoyable and rewarding academic year.

Yours sincerely,

D. Haynes
