AIMS AND PHILOSOPHY
All school leavers will eventually work within a business environment. Learning about the Business world is vital for those students who want to succeed and prosper in today’s competitive work place. The Business courses followed at Greenhill School give students the opportunity to learn about the basic functions of business and apply them to the real world. At key stage 4 students are taught in rooms with excellent IT facilities with one PC per student, whilst at key stage 5 students have ready access to IT facilities. The department has a range of resources and students are taught by experienced staff in an environment where success is encouraged and celebrated.
Students also have the opportunity to take part in the various Business related activities/competitions such as the iFs Student Investor Challenge and the Pembrokeshire Schools Mobile Phone App Challenge (won by Greenhill students in 2011). In the past students have also taken part in a 2-day Business Awareness conference and travelled to Paris to investigate the workings of the Disneyland Theme Park.
All of these activities are designed to allow students to experience and observe business practise first-hand and to interpret such business activity through theory learnt in class based sessions, making the Business courses at Greenhill truly applied and relevant.
At Key Stage 4 students follow the GCSE Applied Business course, which covers the main areas of Business, but which differ in their nature of assessment and delivery. In the first few weeks of the autumn term students follow a common course whilst staff determine which of the two courses is best suited to the individual student. This process ensures that students have the best opportunity to achieve their potential and leads to excellent results at Key Stage 4.
